On the 23rd of July 2015, six teams of aspiring student entrepreneurs from the three Institute of Technical Education (ITE) colleges battled it out in the finals of #startable, an entrepreneurship programme organized by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and ITE.

The finals marked the end of a rewarding month-long entrepreneurial journey which aimed to polish the students' ideas and also equip them with know-how on running a successful business. The programme is sponsored by the Chua Thian Poh Entrepreneurship Education Fund and is managed by NTU's Nanyang Technopreneurship Center (NTC).

Mr Chua Thian Poh- donor of the Fund and Chairman and CEO of Ho Bee Group, feels that entrepreneurs play a vital role in not only keeping the economy vibrant, but also helping society through the creation of new jobs and innovations.

The event venue was abuzz with excitement and anticipation- both from the finalists and also classmates who had come down to give their moral support. Teams were well-prepared and well-rehearsed, with detailed graphs on their market research, breakdowns on expenditures and projected earnings lest, in their bid for the $10,000 funding.

After careful deliberation, the top 3 teams that emerged from #startable 2015 were SG Engravers (a social enterprise which does customisable engraved display pieces), Glassland (uses recycled glass bottles to create beautiful plates through the process of glass slumping) and Fruitsicle (a 100% preservative and colouring-free fruit popsicle which aims to promote healthy eating among students).

In spite of not getting the funding, we are certain that the other 3 teams will not give up on their precious ideas; a participant from Team Anto, a group which created a footpad device to make rehabilitation more convenient for patients said, "We will definitely carry on if our lecturer approves of it. It is something very meaningful."

The 2015 edition of the annual #startable programme ended on a high note, with a certificate presentation ceremony for all participants and a networking session over refreshments.

We wish all participants the best in their ventures and to never stop believing in their dreams and causes.
