​Provost Prof Freddy Boey celebrates Entrepreneurship & Innovation (E&I) Festival 2014 with NTC

NTU Deputy President and Provost Professor Freddy Boey launched the inaugural LiTE (Leadership in Technology Entrepreneurship) Bites on 26 August during the E&I Fest, proudly sponsored by KFC. He shared on how an enterprising mindset is important.

Provost Prof Boey pointed out that: “The first guy who invented the hairpin got a million bucks. The next guy came and put a few waves on the pin, and got another million bucks!”

Director of NTC, Associate Professor Hooi Den Huan, added in his speech that students who have no intention of becoming entrepreneurs should also think innovatively.

The E&I Fest aims to promote an enterprising culture among NTU students through a range of innovation-themed activities. This was an eight-day affair that spanned from 20 to 27 August.

On 22 August, was another highlight of E&I Fest which was the High Tea with Technopreneurs. The speakers included; Marcus Tan, co-founder of online marketplace Carousell., Cheo Ming Shen, Executive Director of Netccentric, a parent company for web ventures such as blog advertising community Nuffnang, Rachel Lim, Co-founder of women’s apparel blogshop Love, Bonito, Gillian Tan, Founder of Munkysuperstar and clicknetwork.tv, Clarence Chan, Founder of Bandwagon and Clara Chen, Co-founder and CEO of influr.

The speakers shared how they pushed the virtual boundaries to establish their growing businesses.

On the 25 August, participants for the Café Hop got the opportunity to visit three NTU Alumni’s cafés as they shared why they decided to be an entrepreneur in such a competitive industry. The cafés visited were, The Mind Café, Revolution Coffee and Jewel Café and Bar.

On the same day, The Internship was screened at NTC’s comfortable Multi-purpose classroom. Movie buffs were able to enjoy the challenges and successes of being an intrapreneur in a comedic setting.

Other activities that were enjoyed by the NTU community were the Nào Marketplace which is an annual E&I Fest Bazaar, Face-Off Debate, 2-day Lean Start-up Workshop and the E&I Fest After-Party. Click here for a soft copy of the E&I Fest Booklet.
